2002 11 03 GOVARDHAN AM

Śrīla Gurudeva:

nama oṁ viṣṇu-pādāya ācārya-siṁha-rūpiṇe śrī-śrīmad-bhakti-prajñāna-keśava iti nāmine atimartya-caritrāya svāśritānāṁ ca pāline jīva-duḥkhe sadārtāya śrī-nāma-prema-dāyine

[I offer praṇāmas unto the most worshipable lion-like ācārya, jagad-guru oṁ viṣṇupāda aṣṭottara-śata Śrī Śrīmad Bhakti Prajñāna Keśava Gosvāmī Mahārāja, who nurtures with extreme, divine affection as a parental guardian those who take shelter of him, who is always genuinely unhappy to see the suffering jīvas who have turned away from Kṛṣṇa, and who is bestowing upon them śrī nāma along with prema. (Śrī Gauḍīya Gīti-guccha: Śrīla Bhakti Prajñāna Keśava Gosvāmī praṇāma))]

vāñchā-kalpa-tarubyaś ca kṛpā-sindhubhya eva ca patitānāṁ pāvanebhyo vaiṣṇavebhyo namo namaḥ

I offer praṇāmas unto the Vaiṣṇavas, who are just like wish-fulfilling desire trees, who are an ocean of mercy, and who deliver the fallen, conditioned souls. [Śrī Gauḍīya Gīti-guccha (Śrī Vaiṣṇava vandanā)]

namo mahā-vadānyāya kṛṣṇa-prema-pradāya te kṛṣṇāya kṛṣṇa-caitanya-nāmne gaura-tviṣe namaḥ

[I offer praṇāma unto Śrī Kṛsṇa-Caitanya, who is Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself. Having assumed the golden hue of Śrīmatī Rādhikā, He is munificently bestowing Kṛṣṇa-prema, the rarest of all gifts. Śrī Gauḍīya Gīti-guccha (Śrīman Mahāprabhu vandanā)]

bhajāmi rādhāṁ aravinda-netrāṁ smarāmi rādhāṁ madhura-smitāsyāṁ vadāmi rādhāṁ karuṇā-bharārdrāṁ tato mamānyāsti gatir na kāpi (2)

[I worship Rādhā who has lotus eyes, I remember Rādhā who has a sweet smile, and I speak of Rādhā who is melted with compassion. There is nothing else for me. She is my life and soul. Śrī Viśākhānandadābhidha-stotram (131) Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī].

We are very lucky that in parikramā, by the causeless mercy of our Gurudeva, Gaurāṅga, Nityānanda Prabhu, and Rādhā-Vinoda-bihārī, we have now finished from Vṛndāvana, Madhuvana, Tālavana and Kumudavana, Bahulāvana and then Bhadravana, Bhāṇḍīravana, Māṭavana, Baelvana, Lohavana, and Mahāvana. You have finished in the guidance of vaiṣṇavas.

Only I was repenting that (even though) I invited you all, and you came from (all over the) whole world, from East and West from South and North, you came but I could not (be with you). I was not with you. I was repenting. (I felt that) I was losing something. Your company. Your good association. So, I was so much repentance for that.

But today I am so happy to see all (of you). I used to meet you when I used to go travel (around the) world — from East to West—everywhere. And there very easily I used to meet you. But today I am very lucky that you are assembled here in Govardhana and our parikramā is going on well—well–managed. My so much blessings to you all, and among you all I have (particular) blessings to Premānanda, Tīrtha Mahārāja, Vana Mahārāja, Araṇya Mahārāja (now Prema-prayojana dāsa), Rāsānanda prabhu (now Śrīpad Sridhara Mahārāja), Padmanābha Mahārāja, Sādhu Mahārāja, Āśrama Mahārāja, Purandara prabhu (now Śrīpad Nṛsiṁha Mahārāja)…All!

Premānandajī is managing the main thing; everything (is) in his hand. If he is stopped (all will stop). All his power, house, prasāda—everything. Though you are giving so much high class of hari-kathā—but if you're hungry, you cannot do anything. So, he is managing and my special mercy to him.

Today we are here in Govardhana. He is very kind. Very kind. He is so causelessly merciful.

First of all I came here in 1947 with our Gurudeva in Dvārakā parikramā. Briefly we did Vraja-maṇḍala and then, oh, coming from Dvārakā, and briefly we did and then returned. And after that how many years? Until 55 years. So, each year I have done parikramā.

First we started with Gurudeva so many devotees. All 500, about, only walking (on) foot. And after that each year when he made me the commander in Keśavajī Gauḍīya Maṭha, caretaker, and then we began (with) only nine or ten devotees. Tīrtha Mahārāja was also there. And now I think you are not less than 500. More than that you are. And also from Delhi, from Mathurā in Govardhana they may come. At least 200 (will come). So, I am very lucky. I (felt I) was very losing. (I was thinking), "What the will be of this year? Can I do parikramā or not?" But by the causeless mercy of Girirāja Govardhana I am among you.
Though I cannot walk so much now, after one month I will be full (strength) to do parikramā, to walk more than before, to speak also more than before, to read and write more than before.

(applause from audience)

Now I hope that I will complete the books that I have begun. Very soon Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu, Ujjvala-nīlamaṇi, Bṛhad-bhāgavatāmṛta and so many books will come. Bhajana-Rahasya also in will come.

So, I am very happy that Kṛṣṇa has arranged everything very well.

(Hindi to side)…

Today our program, at about seven, will do parikramā of Mānasī-gaṅga. First we will go to Harideva because he is the predominating deity of Girirāja.

And then Brahmā-kuṇḍa. (Because) Brahmā has done austerities for several years. And then we will take the water of Mānasī-gaṅga and where is Paranga ghāṭa?

Oh, Kṛṣṇa came in the form of a boatman (and He said), "Oh come on! Very soon I will take you to the other side. My boat is very, very good, new, and also I am very strong I am an expert boatmen."

Gopīs were hearing somewhat but it was becoming very late in the evening. So, they came in the boat; and then Kṛṣṇa, He took it in the mist of Ganges. And now (He was) saying that, "My boat is old. (It has) some holes and I am very weak. I am not a good sailor."

And then it was going up and down like this.

"You will have to give up all of your yogurt pots."

They did this.

"Your ornaments are very heavy."

And thus He did so many things.

yatraiva gaṅgām anu nāvi rādhām

ārohya madhye tu nimagna-naukaḥ kṛṣṇo hi rādhānugalo babhau sa govardhano me diśatām abhīṣṭam

[In the middle of Mānasī Gaṅgā, Śrī Rādhā was sitting in Kṛṣṇa’s boat. When the boat began to sink, She tightly clung to His neck. Together They looked very beautiful. May that Govardhana (who provides the setting for this secret līlā) fulfill my desire. (Śrī Govardhanāṣṭakam by Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura {verse 7})]

And the boat was (going) up-and-down. Śrīmati Rādhikā, out of fear, She grabbed hold (of), embraced, Kṛṣṇa and that is what Kṛṣṇa wanted.

So, Paranga ghāṭa, lilas–sthalī and then Cakreśvara Mahādeva and then Sanātana Gosvāmī's bhajana-kuṭira.

And then, in Mānasī-gaṅga, Mukharavinda.

And then, I will try, being your representative, I will do Govardhana pūjā with milk, flowers, and other paraphernalia.

(Hindi aside)…

It may be that daily I cannot go with parikramā on foot. It may be that I will go by car. I will do parikramā something, somewhat speaking a little and then I will return here. At least one month full, and after that one month more, I will have to take rest and I think that I will take rest in Hawaii. In Vṛndāvana, by the side of Yamunā; there is Kālindī, Yamunā — and mountains, also Govardhana. So, I will be there.

(Hindi translation of what Śrīla Gurudeva has said [by Mādhava Mahārāja].)

[Later, at Mukharavinda]

Here is Mukharavinda, but eyes are Rādhā-kuṇḍa and Śyāma kuṇḍa. And tail is (indistinct) and like (a) peacock. Peacocks, when dancing, you will see that (one) side is very high and, his mouth, he is making so long and when he is dancing he may put his mouth inside his stomach. So, eyes are there (and) mouth is here.

So, if we will worship Girirāja Govardhana here and give all this mahā-prasādam to Girirāja Govardhana he will take by mouth here. So, we have done pūjā, everything, here.

But who is Girirāja Govardhana? Who is Girirāja Govardhana? In very brief I will tell that he is the son of Dronacala Parvata. Hanumān, by the order of Rāmacandra, to make a bridge on (indistinct) he sent all the monkeys and from different parts of the Himalayas, here and there, (they were) bringing mountains and various stones to make a bridge there. Hanumān, he jumped on from there and came to the Himalayas and he saw that this mountain, Girirāja, small, like a baby, of Dronacala; and he took on his hand and he was jumping, and when he came here Rāmacandra told and ordered (that) the bridge is completed now, no need of bringing any mountains. So, keep the mountains where they are. So, Hanumān kept (it) here.

But, Girirāja mahārāja why was he here? He knew that in Dvārakā-yuga Kṛṣṇa will come with all His powers, Rādhikā and gopīs and all. So, I must be here.

There are so many stories we will explain in the afternoon there in class. But one thing I want to you — very secret. That is Kṛṣṇa and Rādhā and gopīs very confidential, sweet pastimes are in the caves of Govardhana and kuñjas — beautiful kuñjas here everywhere. Now you can not see but at that time (there were) so many kuñjas and groves were there. So, Girirāja is looking after Their sweet pastimes.

But, you know, even Śańkara, he is male so he could not enter rāsa-līlā. So, if Girirāja Govardhana is male then he can not see all the beautiful sweet past times of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa and gopīs.

So, it proves that Girirāja has come from the heart of Rādhikā. To serve Rādhikā. So, in one case, in one way, he is like a gopī. Haridāsī not haridāsaharidāsa was not but haridāsī.

So, he can look after all the sweet past times of (indistinct). It may be that being a gopī he may come in the form of a gopī in the sweet pastimes of Kṛṣṇa.

jaya Girirāja Govardhana! kī jaya!

Now, Tīrtha Mahārāja and others will do parikramā from here to Brahmā-kuṇḍa and then Mānasī-gaṅga (indistinct) and then our maṭha.
