ajñāna-timirāndhasya jñānāñjana-śalākayā caksur unmīlitaṁ yena tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ

vāñchā-kalpa-tarubyaś ca kṛpā-sindhubhya eva ca patitānāṁ pāvanebhyo vaiṣṇavebhyo namo namaḥ

gurave gauracandrāya rādhikāyai tadālaye kṛṣṇāya kṛṣṇa-bhaktāya tad-bhaktāya namo namaḥ

yaṁ pravrajantam anupetam apeta-kṛtyaṁ dvaipāyano viraha-kātara ājuhāva putreti tan-mayatayā taravo 'bhinedus taṁ sarva-bhūta-hṛdayaṁ munim ānato 'smi
[I offer praṇāma to Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī, who can enter the hearts of all people. When he left home without undergoing the purificatory processes such as accept- ing the sacred thread, his father Vyāsa cried out, “O my son!” As if they were absorbed in that same feeling of separation, the trees echoed in response to his call. Śrīmad Bhāgavatam (1.2.2)]
tavaivāsmi tavaivāsmi na jīvāmi tvayā vinā iti vijñāya devi (radhe) tvaṁ naya māṁ caraṇāntikam
[I am Yours! I am Yours! I cannot exist without You! O Devi (Rādhikā), please understand this and bring me to Your lotus feet. Śrī Stavāvali, Vilāpa-kusumāñjali 96, Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī]
On the bank of Ganga, in Kāśī, so come. There Mahaprabhu is sitting on the ground but on the bank of Ganges. Sanatana Gosvami is like a student and he is very attentively, like he is drinking a nectar from his cup of ears, he telling:
kāma lāgi' kṛṣṇe bhaje, pāya kṛṣṇa-rase kāma chāḍi' 'dāsa' haite haya abhilāṣe

"When someone engages in Lord Kṛṣṇa’s devotional service for the satisfaction of the senses and instead acquires a taste to serve Kṛṣṇa, he gives up his material desires and willingly offers himself as an eternal servant of Kṛṣṇa.”
Śrīla Gurudeva: No purport? Some?
Prema-prayojana dāsa: No purport.
Śrīla Gurudeva: Kṛṣṇa is so merciful. If anyone chanting, remembering Him, and even he wants to fulfill his desires, sense gratification, oh, very soon Kṛṣṇa gives it; and after that what he does? He takes away all his worldly desires. And very soon he gets a taste in his pure bhakti.
A boy of five years, Dhruva, he went to his father with his stepbrother. The king took the stepbrothers, Uttamā, in his lap. It means he is now like prince and after him he will be king. Dhruva also wanted to sit in his lap because he was senior and elder than him and very qualified. And king also wanted to take in his lap but at once the stepmother told, “You should die and come in my womb, take new birth — then you are qualified to sit in the lap of your father and then you can be king. If you are not coming from my womb, oh, you can not be king. You are not qualified.”
The king was fearing from that wife because she was so beautiful. So beautiful and she was somewhat younger. So, king used to fear her. Though the first was very qualified, pure devotee, but the king rejected. He wanted to have some love and affection, worldly, with that Suruci.
So, when he rejected, king, and fearing from his wife, then the boy began to weep. Like poisonous snakes. He at once came to house he was weeping so bitterly. Mother asked, “Why you are weeping?”
And what he told, “King rejected me, my father, but I must, I want to, have a kingdom like that.”
His mother told that, “Oh, your elder brother is Hari. Why not going? He has power to give this. So, you should call your elder brother and He will come and give that position, more than that.”
“Where He is?”
“Oh, He is everywhere but you can go in forest alone, where there are no anyone, nirjana, solitary place, and you should call Him with tear.”
At once, in the midnight, no permission with anyone, even to his mother also, and he quickly gave up his home and went to forest. Very dangerous forest in Madhuvana. Only tigers and bears at that time in Madhuvana. And he made a very fixed determination, “I will do or die.” And thus he wanted to call Kṛṣṇa. In the meantime Nārada came. He is very merciful, “Oh, boy, why you are like so? You should return to your home. Otherwise wild bears, tigers, mad elephants, and all will eat you.”
“Oh, I don’t care. I’ve come to call my elder brother, Hari.”
“Oh, it is not so easy. You should return and go to home.”
He tried so much but he was fixed.
Then he told, “Oh, now you are right. I am giving one mantra.” And he gave mantra. You should take bath in Yamunā, and go to this place Madhuvana on a high place. In six months you will have the darśana of Hari and then you can (indistinct).
He went there. First months only leaves, dry leaves after seven days. Some water. Next month, what? Giving up leaves. After 15 days he began to take some water. And after one month even left water. Only after one month or so much he used to take some (breath air) stop this. And after four months he totally, vas. Whole world began to (burn) like fire. Brahmā and demigods became very worried. And at once Nārāyaṇa came in his heart, four-handed. Now he became very happy. Nārāyaṇa came out of his heart and came in front of him on ground and he saw Kṛṣṇa, Nārāyaṇa is here. Nārāyaṇa gave a boon that, “You will have the kingdom of whole universe. First of this Earth, whole Earth, for 33,000 years you will taste the kingdom.”
And telling He disappeared. Oh, now he became, was lamenting, so much lamenting, “Why I took this boon? I came to search broken glass pieces. But what happened? At once…”
Śrīla Gurudeva: Diamond. What kinds of diamond?
Audience: Transcendental jewels.
Śrīla Gurudeva: Jewels. It can give lakhs and lakhs…
Oh, you can sit there were some chairs. You should supply them. Oh, young persons they should give chairs. Young persons they should come here. You can sit. Thank you.
So, he was crying bitterly, “Why I requested a boon for this? Oh, so much fie on me. Fie on me. I could not realize that diamond. A desire diamond. I only collected some broken glass.”
What is broken glass? No value of these worldly kingdom and all these things. And he was weeping so much. Then an ariel voice came and pacified, “Don’t worry. You wanted this so you will have to taste for 36,000 years. And then you will have pure bhakti. You have begun your pure bhakti but then you will have some special dhāma, abode. Oh, he was weeping, “I’ve lost my 36,000 years. Why I did so?”
So, he came in his kingdom and his father gave his whole kingdom and plus the kingdom of whole this universe. And after, when he became old, then no death. He put his feet on the head of death and with that body he went to Dhruvaloka. What doing there? What doing? It is not mortal land. Transcendental but no service because he was not so much good association afterward like Nārada and others. He was not in association of Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s associates. I think you are more fortunate than Dhruva. But also, what? Very weak. He was determined but he was some weak. He will see any very first class beauty — at once he will be attracted. I am telling for each other. So, this is demarcation line. Be careful. So, don’t be attracted. You have so much chance to hear Mahāprabhu’s kathā but if you have no taste in this then your life is useless. I told yesterday.
So, Kṛṣṇa is so merciful that even for any desire, you are calling Kṛṣṇa…
Audience: Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare
Śrīla Gurudeva: …but careful for offenses. No offenses. It may be some unwanted desire, no harm. But there should be no offenses to Guru, Vaiṣṇava, Hari, nāma aparādha and all these things. Very, very…
If you are doing it unknowingly then it is what? Like a pāpa, sin. But if you are knowing and you are now a devotee knowing all these and doing again and again then it is nāma aparādha. So, you should be very careful for this.
saṁsāra bhramite kona bhāgye keha tare nadīra pravāhe yena kāṣṭha lāge tīre
[“The conditioned souls are wandering throughout the different planets of the universe, entering various species of life. By good fortune one of these souls may somehow or other be delivered from the ocean of nescience, just as one of the many big logs in a flowing river may by chance reach the bank. CC Madhya (22.43)]
Mahāprabhu has told what?
Śyāmarāṇī dāsī: There are unlimited conditioned souls who are bereft of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s service. Not knowing how to cross the ocean of nescience they are scattered by waves, time, and tide. However, some are fortunate to contact devotees and by this contact they are delivered from the ocean of nescience just like a log floating down the river accidentally washes upon the bank.
Śrīla Gurudeva: kona bhāgye keha tare — what is the meaning of kona bhāgye?
Audience: How fortunate.
Śrīla Gurudeva: What fortunate?
Audience: (indistinct) sādhu sanga…
Śrīla Gurudeva: Any sukṛti. That is sukṛti. What is that sukṛti?
Audience: Association of sādhus.
Śrīla Gurudeva: Anyhow if you are in connection of Kṛṣṇa or any associates of Kṛṣṇa or tadīya vastu. Tadīya means…
Audience: Related to Kṛṣṇa.
Śrīla Gurudeva: Tulasī, Ekādaśī, Gaṅgā, Nāma, His birthplace, pastime places — these are tadiya. So, if you are anyhow in connection, oh, this is very powerful. And then any high class of devotee will come to you. Certainly he will come. Kṛṣṇa will arrange. Like Śukadeva Gosvāmī, like Nārada Gosvāmī, like Rūpa Gosvāmī, like Caitanya Mahāprabhu went through whole India, here and there. And those who saw from His glance, at once they became vaiṣṇava. Rūpa, Sanātana and all others, oh, very powerful — dura darsanete jarā aise kṛṣṇa prema.
emana kṛpālu nāhi śuni tribhuvane kṛṣṇa-premā haya yāṅra dūra daraśane
[There is no one as merciful as Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu within all three worlds. Simply by seeing Him from a distance, one is overwhelmed with love of Godhead. CC Madhya (16.121)]
Anyone, tigers, bears, any animals, humans, (unknown), candala, (unknown), all these. They may be animal and they are seeing, “Oh, Caitanya Mahāprabhu, Rūpa Gosvāmī is coming.” We - not liberated souls. We are sādhaka simple. Simple sādhaka. And so many persons are inspired. Any associate, liberated, and coming, what will be? Now you are three. Then you will be three lakhs. All will be so inspired.
So, this is only saṁsāra bhramite kona bhagavān jīva kona — kona meaning? Rare. Rare.
I know that in Alachua it may be one lakh population?
Audience: 5,000. Two lakhs.
Śrīla Gurudeva: In devotees 500 families and in them how are you here? Only few. So, in this world, oh, very big population. Very big population. In India alone one arab, one billion. China also more than this. Half of the whole world population India and China. Oh, India is somewhat jumping from China also very quickly. They can not support and nourish their children even jumping in population. Very thick population. But how many are devotees? If there are some devotees but not pure devotee. If they are pure devotee but not Kṛṣṇa. If they are Kṛṣṇa devotee but so many things, not one-pointed. They worship here, there. And if they are one-pointed what doing? All for mukti. And among them very rare are that they only want pure bhakti. In pure bhakti dāsya rāsa very few. Among them very few sākhya. In them very few, very few, in lakhs and lakhs very few, what…?
Audience: … vātsalya rāsa …
Śrīla Gurudeva: … vātsalya rāsa very few. And among lakhs and lakhs vātsalya rāsa devotees very rare, very rare what…?
Audience: Gopī mood.
Śrīla Gurudeva: Gopī mood. In lakhs lakhs of gopī mood, it may be Candrāvalī, Badra, Śyāmala, here, there, in the group of…here, there. Very rare among them, what? In the group of Śrīmati Rādhikā. But even in Lalitā group very rare are (indistinct) devoted to Lalitā. In Lalitā group very few, very few, in the guidance of Rūpa.
So, nadīra pravāhe yena kāṣṭha lāge tīre … What is the meaning? Oh, like a river. Can you explain this?
nadīra pravāhe yena kāṣṭha lāge tīre…
Audience: Like the force in a river…I don’t know the rest.
Śrīla Gurudeva: You can. Can you?
Devotee: Like by the forces of the river a wooden log may come to the shore, so the jīva may come in contact with such pure devotee.
Śrīla Gurudeva: More. What you want. You should explain.
Prema-prayojana dāsa: In this material world the jīva is carried along is so many activities …
Śrīla Gurudeva: You should come to this point. Don’t make it long that one hour it will take. He can take two or three hours, no harm.
Prema-prayojana dāsa: So, it may be that as the log is floating in the river it will wash up on the bank. So, in the same way, jīvas in this world they are traveling and traveling and it may be that they come in contact with sādhus or anything to do with Kṛṣṇa like Ekādaśī, Janmāṣṭamī festival, mahā-prasādam, and in this way they make some sukṛti. And when this sukṛti is accumulated and they wash up on the shore it means they come into good association and enter into the line of pure bhakti.
Śrīla Gurudeva: Like a river. Don’t do. Don’t do. You should try to listen and keep here. And if you are not doing you can not keep it.
Like a river. There is flood in river. In flood you know? From various places so many things coming together. And sometimes they make an island. Sometimes. Oh, things from here and there, taking, cutting here, there and they take it in one place and it becomes island. And sometimes island cutting, cutting and going here, there. If there is a straw there, where it will go? In that flood? Any certainty? It may go to ocean, to here and there. But anyhow there was wind, favorable wind, and it was not in the direct current. So, anyhow, by the help of wind, that straw came…where?
Audience: Bank of river.
Śrīla Gurudeva: How it came?
Śrīla Gurudeva: …bhāgye. Anyhow, so, we are like dry straw. No strong. No strength, nothing. But if you have done, in your past life, something related to Kṛṣṇa then, by the wish of Kṛṣṇa, endless mercy, you can be in line. What is line? Association of bhakti’s line. And that high class of association, they will give you so much power, inspire you. And then they will manage your Gurudeva, śikṣā-guru, dīkṣā-guru, initiation, serving of Gurudeva. And gradually niṣṭha will come, then taste will come, then āsakti will come. More, śuddha-sat will come and thus your life will be successful. So, he is telling:
kona bhāgye kāro saṁsāra kṣayonmukha haya sādhu-saṅge tabe kṛṣṇe rati upajaya
[“By good fortune one becomes eligible to cross the ocean of nescience, and when one’s term of material existence decreases, one may get an opportunity to associate with pure devotees. By such association, one’s attraction to Kṛṣṇa is awakened. CC Madhya (22.45)]
Anyone who is so fortunate. Kṛṣṇa will manage what? Sādhu sanga. And he is telling:
sādhu-saṅga sādhu-saṅga sarva-śāstre kaya lava-mātra sādhu-saṅge sarva-siddhi haya
[The verdict of all revealed scriptures is that through even a moment's association with a sādhu, a pure devotee, one can attain (ultimately) complete spiritual perfection. CC Mad (22.54)]
Śyāmarāṇī dāsī: By good fortune one becomes eligible to cross the ocean of nescience and, when one’s term on material existence decreases, one may get an opportunity to associate with pure devotees. By such association one’s attraction to Kṛṣṇa is awakened.
Śrīla Gurudeva: If you are so fortunate to be in the association of high class of vaiṣṇava they will give the same fruit as you are taking, making so much labor, so much everything and you will get in thousands of births, oh, sādhu sanga what will do? Quickly in a moment.
So, this sādhu sanga is so high. And if you are rejecting high class of association it means spoiling your life. If anyone is making some wall you can not go to associate and to hear hari-kathā from elevated, or high class of vaiṣṇava then who is he? He is your enemy. He is like a dragon. Dragon you know? What?
Śrīla Gurudeva: In ocean dragon. Like (indistinct) so much. Be far away from them. Don’t take any suggestion from them. Only you can do praṇāma forever. Like this.
mahat-kṛpā vinā kona karme 'bhakti' naya kṛṣṇa-bhakti dūre rahu, saṁsāra nahe kṣaya
[“Unless one is favored by a pure devotee, one cannot attain the platform of devotional service. To say nothing of kṛṣṇa-bhakti, one cannot even be relieved from the bondage of material existence. CC Madhya (22.51)]
Śyāmarāṇī dāsī: Unless one is favored by a pure devotee he can not obtain the platform of devotional service. To say nothing of Kṛṣṇa bhakti, one can not even be relieved from the bondage of material existence.
Śrīla Gurudeva: What she told? What is the purport? You should.
Prema-prayojana dāsa: Here Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is …
Śrīla Gurudeva: If you are not understanding, raise your hand here, but here.
Prema-prayojana dāsa: Here Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is stressing the importance …
Śrīla Gurudeva: …Oh, take it very important and try to follow in your life, if you want really bhakti and if you want to be happy in your life.
Prema-prayojana dāsa: Here Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is stressing the importance of sādhu sanga. Unless we have sādhu sanga, the association of pure devotees, hearing from them, and serving under their guidance, we will not be able to enter into the path of pure bhakti. We will have a misconception. We will think that our activities are devotional service but actually they are mixed with so many types of karma, jñāna, yoga, bhakti ābhāsa, the semblance of bhakti, and different forms of things. We’ll think, “This is bhakti.” But really it’s not. Only by very good association some discrimination will come in us to understand what is actually śuddha-bhakti and if we do not avail ourselves of the association of high-level of devotees, what to speak of attaining bhakti, we will not even be able to get out of the cycle of birth and death.
Śrīla Gurudeva: There was a king named Rahūgaṇa. Very learned person. Knowing so many things. He was going to any high class of devotee like Kapiladevā, Himself an incarnation of God, on a palanquin. Anyhow, by his past sukṛti Bharata Mahārāja was there taking palanquin they engaged and he was going. And he was amazing to Bharata Mahārāja not knowing him that who is he.
“Oh, you are very lean and thin, you can not walk. Oh, you know, I am King. I can punish you. I can give you lesson for your whole life. You should try to take palanquin.”
And mercifully he told, “If there is palanquin then it is to carry, no harm. If you are really King also to carry your orders, no harm. But you should know, are you King really? For how many days? When you took birth were you King and after your death you will be King? Oh, you told that I am very fat. Really, I am not fat. What you are seeing externally, like foolish persons. You are foolish. I am not fat, I am not lean, thin. I am more minute than air. More than that. I am not fat, not this, or anything.”
And he told so many good philosophy. Then he was wondered, “Oh, please tell me who are you?” And he got down from palanquin and folding his hands, “Who are you?” Out of pity he told, “Have you heard the name of Bharata? After his name the name of Bharata is Bharata varṣa. I am same Bharata. I ruled this whole world for 50,000 years and I left. I am same Bharata.”
“Oh, you are in my dynasty.”
“Oh, same Bharata.”
And he has now so much faith, honor for him and then he asked so many questions and he answered them. Then he became satisfied. And then at last he is telling, Bharata Mahārāja instructing him:
rahūgaṇaitat tapasā na yāti na cejyayā nirvapaṇād gṛhād vā na cchandasā naiva jalāgni-sūryair vinā mahat-pāda-rajo-’bhiṣekam
[My dear King Rahūgaṇa, unless one has the opportunity to smear his entire body with the dust of the lotus feet of great devotees, one cannot realize the Absolute Truth. One cannot realize the Absolute Truth simply by observing celibacy [brahmacarya], strictly following the rules and regulations of householder life, leaving home as a vānaprastha, accepting sannyāsa, or undergoing severe penances in winter by keeping oneself submerged in water or surrounding oneself in summer by fire and the scorching heat of the sun. There are many other processes to understand the Absolute Truth, but the Absolute Truth is only revealed to one who has attained the mercy of a great devotee. SB (5.12.12 )]
“Oh, Rahūgaṇa King, hear me. Anyone, without the mercy of any high class of mahat, mahat, Kṛṣṇa is mahān. He is mahān apimahān, and His devotees are mahat. So, without the mercy of any mahat — by worshipping Sun, fire, demigods, anyone, by his own intelligence doing so many things, even chanting and remembering, you are doing chanting so much — and if you have no mercy of mahat then what will be? Pretending bogus things are bhakti. And you will be cheated. Like now so many are cheated. They thought that, “Oh, this is only bhakti. Distribution of books only is bhakti and it will take us to Goloka Vṛndāvana.” And first numbers, Brahmananda. In this week you are highest in the top of book distributor but now where is Brahmananda? Where? He could not understand the mercy of his Gurudeva.
So, not only, thousands and thousands are devotees like this. Thinking that, “I am doing bhakti.” But they are thousands of miles away from bhakti yoga. If they are chanting what is that? They chanted but what was that? Karma. Fruitive acts. And that is why they went and they are tasting that fruitive acts.
So, kona karme, if they are coming here but they are so many false ego. So, all are karma. But if mahat is there, by only clearing the stools of any devotee, he can be like Narottama Ṭhākura. What he was doing? What he practiced? Oh, any mahat like Lokanātha Gosvāmī. He was clearing only stools. And what became? Oh, Narottama dāsa. Who is Narottama? Kṛṣṇa is Him, Himself Narottama, Nārāyaṇa tvam uttamām. You know Narottama Ṭhākura. Anyone can be like this. Without mahat kṛpā:
naiṣāṁ matis tāvad urukramāṅghriṁ spṛśaty anarthāpagamo yad-arthaḥ mahīyasāṁ pāda-rajo-’bhiṣekaṁ niṣkiñcanānāṁ na vṛṇīta yāvat
[“ ‘Unless human society accepts the dust of the lotus feet of great mahātmās — devotees who have nothing to do with material possessions — mankind cannot turn its attention to the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa. Those lotus feet vanquish all the unwanted, miserable conditions of material life.’ CC Madhya (22.53)]
Here also he is telling mahīyasāṁ pāda-rajo-'bhiṣekaṁ. You should not faith on your chanting. You should not faith on your hearing. You should have faith very strongly to pure devotee. And from their mouth you should hear. And in his guidance you should chant. Very quickly you will be successful. Whatever you do, not only śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ smaraṇaṁ pāda-sevanam — stool clearing, or only brooming, or anything doing — in their guidance it will be pure bhakti. So, mahat kṛpā, mahat kṛpā, sādhu sanga, sādhu sanga.
So, Mahāprabhu is telling that:
kṛṣṇa kṛpālu arjunere lakṣya kariyā jagatere rākhiyāchena upadeśa diyā
[“Kṛṣṇa is so merciful that simply by aiming His instructions at Arjuna, He has given protection to the whole world. CC Madhya (22.56)]
What? Oh, 56.
Śyāmarāṇī dāsī: Kṛṣṇa is so merciful that simply by aiming His instructions at Arjuna He has given perfection to the whole world.
sarva-guhyatamaṁ bhūyaḥ śṛṇu me paramaṁ vacaḥ iṣṭo 'si me dṛḍham iti tato vakṣyāmi te hitam man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru mām evaiṣyasi satyaṁ te pratijāne priyo 'si me
[“ ‘Because you are My very dear friend, I am speaking to you My supreme instruction, the most confidential knowledge of all. Hear this from Me, for it is for your benefit. Always think of Me and become My devotee, worship Me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are My very dear friend.’ CC Madhya (22.57-58) & Bhagavad-gītā (18.64-65)]
This is the essence of whole Gītā — essence of whole Gītā — guhya, guhyatar, guhyatamam, or sarva-guhya-tamam — this is sarva-guhya-tamam. This is the essence of Gītā. Mahāprabhu not told that it is bahir. He told only for only for sarva-dharmān parityajya/mām ekaṁ …(B.G. 18.66). Oh, it is bahir. But this: man-manā bhava mad-bhakto…, like gopīs, like gopīs. Kṛṣṇa told to Uddhava, “My gopīs are like this.
tā man-manaskā mat-prāṇā mat-arthe tyakta-daihikāḥ mām eva dayitaṁ preṣṭham ātmānaṁ manasā gatāḥ ye tyakta-loka-dharmāś ca mad-arthe tān bibharmy aham
[The minds of those gopīs are always absorbed in Me, and their very lives are ever devoted to Me. For My sake they have abandoned everything related to their bodies, renouncing ordinary happiness in this life, as well as religious duties necessary for such happiness in the next life. I alone am their dearmost beloved and, indeed, their very Self. I personally sustain such devotees, who for My sake give up all worldly duties. SB (10.46.4)]

You should tell to them.
Śrīla Gurudeva: You know man-manā bhava? I have told so many times. It will take so much time.
Śrīla Gurudeva: Oh, man-manā bhava…means? What is the meaning?
Audience: Always think of Me. Your mind should be focused on Me.
Śrīla Gurudeva: How? Oh, there was a newly married gopī came from Varṣāṇā to Nandagaon. Nandagaon she came. And she has heard that, oh, very beautiful Śyāma is and He plays on flute very smiling. If anyone goes, never, he gives his heart, or her heart, and He never returns it.
One day, by chance, Kṛṣṇa was taking his lakhs and lakhs cows and friends who were coming from the very lane knowingly. For whom? For that (newly married lady) because always she wanted to see Kṛṣṇa; so Kṛṣṇa was passing through that lane.
She was in the courtyard with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. She was ready to go on the street or in the lane but her mother-in-law was telling her, “Don’t go.” Then, “Mother, why should I not go?”
“Oh, because there is a very poisonous black snake. He will bite you. You should not go. And He will bite and His poison never will…no down.”
“Oh, why your daughter is going? She went there running. Why you could not check her?”
“I am telling to you. You are new one. You should not go.”
“But why you are going? Keeping me here? Why so many ladies are going there? Even mothers are going, sisters are going, new married gopīs are going. All are going there. Even old persons, old bland persons are going and only He will bite me? Oh, certainly. Oh, you should be here. I am going.”
“Oh, I should not wait. I must go. What will be done. I will see last. Later on.”
And telling she went. And she was waiting on her door. Peeping from behind doors. Oh, Kṛṣṇa, knowingly, took the tail of any good calf and he jumped quickly. And He came very near to that newly married gopī. Where she was. Oh, only not coming down. Kṛṣṇa came, smiled and took His flute and touched here, like this. And she saw Kṛṣṇa and by that, through eyes, He took her heart and kept in His heart and quickly ran away from there.
This gopī became mad because her mind, attention, heart, everything Kṛṣṇa took and went away, running. And gopī was there standing, standing, standing.
Now her mother-in-law came, “What are you doing? I told you, ‘Don’t go.’ I see that that black snake has bitten you and the poison is there. Oh, come on with me.”
Anyhow she dragged in house, “How I should make her in sense?” She was thinking that a very great problem. She told that, “Go to this house and bring one churning pot with yogurt and you should churn the yogurt.”
She went inside and took a pot, thinking that this is yogurt pot, but what was it really? A pot in which was kept mustard seeds. And she took and began to churn it. Her mother-in-law again came, “What you are doing? I told you to churn yogurt and you are turning these mustard seeds.”
And even she was not in sense. Kṛṣṇa has taken her mind and heart. Again she told, “Oh, come on with me.”
And she gave one water pot here, big. And after that one, and after that one — three, four. And she gave also here, one pot, two pot, three pot. And she gave a little boy, her boy. In this lap and some rope and some bucket here.
“And you should go and bring water from that well — pan-ghāṭa, pani hari-kuṇḍa. Anyhow she went but her mind was where? Where Kṛṣṇa was. She was not in sense. Taking all she went to the well. As daily she practiced to go there so in practice she went there. She kept the child there, all the vessels there and took her rope and she made a knot and she thought that this boy, no difference in boy and that vessel. And she gave in the neck of that boy. So many gopīs were there, “Oh, what became?! What became?! Oh, any ghost is there. There is bhūta.” Bhūta means…?
Śrīla Gurudeva: Ghost. But some though knew this fact, “No, no, no bhūta. Nanda-bhūta. What is the meaning of Nanda-bhūta?
Audience: Son of Nanda baba.
Śrīla Gurudeva: He is like a bhūta and He is there. And anyhow they prohibited and took her to her home.
So, this is man-manā bhava. Not ordinary thing. So many munis they want to be like that man-manā bhava. Arjuna told what? “In battlefield how can I be like this? You are telling me to fight with (bow and arrow). There are so many enemies, how I can give my mind to You?”
“Then, you should do bhakti.”
“How I can chant and remember? If I am dancing and chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa / Hare Kṛṣṇa / Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa / Hare Hare, They will kill me. What to do?”
Audience: mad-yājī (Bg 9.34).
Śrīla Gurudeva: mad-yājī. You can do worship.
“From where I will bring so many paraphernalia? Like hunter. Like this. And again my enemy will kill me. What to do?”
“Oh, you should not do anything. You should do only one praṇāma. It is enough.”
But in what way? In what way? I have surrendered, totally surrendered, offering everything to your lotus feet. This is the essence of Śrīmad Bhāgavatam — man-manā bhava. So, Mahāprabhu is telling man-manā bhava but how it will be?
I wanted to explain more but now it is seven half. Only I will tell one thing.
'śraddhā'-śabde - viśvāsa kahe sudṛḍha niścaya kṛṣṇe bhakti kaile sarva-karma kṛta haya
[Śraddhā is confident, firm faith that by rendering transcendental loving service to Kṛṣṇa one automatically performs all subsidiary activities. Such faith is favorable to the discharge of devotional service. CC Madhya (22.62)]
What is the meaning?
Audience: That one should perform bhakti with very firm faith. Sudṛḍha niścaya means that it should be very firm faith. Completely determined and if one does bhakti is this way, with complete faith, all activities, all worldly obligations are fulfilled.
Śrīla Gurudeva: Something, something golmaal.
Audience: Śrāddha, śrāddha, the meaning of śrāddha …
Śrīla Gurudeva: What is …viśvāsa kahe sudṛḍha niścaya…
Audience: To have faith, to trust with …
Śrīla Gurudeva: To not have. If that is there — sudṛḍha niścaya. Any devotee, anyone who has determination, firm determination, what? If I am serving Kṛṣṇa, chanting Kṛṣṇa, hearing Kṛṣṇa, then my whole life is successful. I have done everything. My all jobs, my all responsibilities, what? Will be done only by chanting Kṛṣṇa. With this faith. This is transcendental faith. Then you will follow Gurudeva word, Kṛṣṇa word, śāstra word. Oh, this is very rare. There is some śrāddha but our śrāddha is like weak. I know that some of you they have real faith, real śrāddha but some are very weak. Oh, sādhu sanga can give this real transcendental faith.
śraddhāvān jana haya bhakti-adhikārī 'uttama', 'madhyama', 'kaniṣṭha' - śraddhā-anusārī
[“A faithful devotee is a truly eligible candidate for the loving service of the Lord. According to one’s faith, one is classified as a topmost devotee, an intermediate devotee or an inferior devotee. CC Madhya (22.64)]
So, who is qualified for bhakti? Only those who have this kind of real śrāddha. And according to the level of their faith bhakta are of three kinds: uttama, madhyama, and kaniṣṭha. Only according to their faith in Kṛṣṇa.
śāstra-yuktye sunipuṇa, dṛḍha-śraddhā yāṅra 'uttama-adhikārī' sei tāraye saṁsāra
[“One who is expert in logic, argument and the revealed scriptures and who has firm faith in Kṛṣṇa is classified as a topmost devotee. He can deliver the whole world. CC Madhya (22.65)]
Oh, tomorrow I will explain it in very well way that you should understand and try to follow. I think that you should not return barren. You should take something from here and return with something positive wealth. And that wealth is what? What we are discussing here. And you will be happy. Then you will think that something (indistinct) and then you will be really adhikārī, qualified for real uttamā bhakti. You should try to follow all these things. If I am going from here, European countries, here and India, don’t think that I have gone. Svāmīji is always with you, I am always with you. Remember us. A power will come and you should be very strong. Don’t feel weak. Always chanting, remembering in good way. Try to have this main object of the life.

Audience: Hari hari bol!
tṛṇād api su-nīcena taror via sahiṣṇunā amāninā māna-dena kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ
["One who thinks himself lover than the grass, who is more tolerant than a tree, and who does not expect personal honor yet is always prepared to give all respect to others can very easily always chant the hold name of the Lord" C.C Ādi (17.3), Antya (6.239), Antya (20.21)]
Audience: One should be more humble than a blade of grass. One should be more tolerant than a tree. One should not think of getting any respect for oneself but should give all respect to others and in this way one can continuously chant the name of Hari.
Śrīla Gurudeva: If any man, devotee, is like this, any problem in this world? Why we are quarreling ourselves in our one family of Mahāprabhu? What is the reason we are…?
Audience: We have not drunk from the cup containing this formula.
Śrīla Gurudeva: These four qualities are not there. We don’t want to give proper respect…
